    Description

    M1910 Entrenching Tool
Original [?] "odd manufacturer variant" of the M1910 entrenching tool, blued steel one piece blade featuring standard issue type hard wood handle with steel handle reinforcing strap at top. Overall length 22 inches and blade is 7 inches wide at widest point. Blade and handle still retain approx. 50% light OD green painted finish, with a 1 3/4 inch wide dark red band painted around handle just above blade. U.S. faintly stamped on one side of wood handle.
There seems to be quite a bit of confusion in the collector world as to exactly what this shovel may be--about half think it is a possible pre-WW1 version of the standard M1910 shovel [some even saying it may be a Model 1905 or something similar], and the other half thinking it was a post-WW2 "surplus dealer special" using locally produced blades combined with surplus replacement handles [I tend to lean more towards the second theory myself]. Whatever the case, it's still a nice clean example of this "mystery" shovel and is in very good condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
