    Description

    M1917 Medical Officer's Belt--Mills 1918
Original WW1 US Army medical officer's belt with a number of the original components, as follows:
Belt: Four pocket khaki cotton web construction with center adjuster strap, blackened brass hardware throughout and rimmed eagle snap closures. All three sections are well marked with ink stamped Mills bullet logo and date March 1918. End tabs on adjuster strap are well marked with Mills bullet logo, patent dates, and address. No holes, fraying, soiling, or other damage, in fact belt appears to have seen little use.
Officer's Field Case [surgical kit]: Khaki canvas roll with light OD green cotton trim, brown painted snaps, and slots inside for instruments. Contains the following instruments: Clippers [spring on inside of one handle is broken]; Two pairs of forceps/clamps; Small blunt edge scalpel marked THE SCHOLL MFG CO.; Grooved aneurysm needle with hook on one end; Two standard type scalpels in metal case, case marked PATENTED NOV. 5 1912; Two packages of Aseptic Braided Silk Ligatures; One package of Aseptic Catgut Ligatures; One package of surgical needles, three curved, four straight. All instruments are nickel plated steel construction. Surgical needles in pack are rusty from years of storage.
Hypo kit: Aluminum case containing nickel plated brass pump, two needles, needle cleaning wires, and two glass vials, one of which is missing the stopper. Case is marked on top MED. DEP. U.S.A. Does not have the small brown felt pouch. Case has white cotton padding inside lid.
Medication flask: Clear glass construction with nickel plated cast metal screw cap and removeable black rubber stopper inside. Cap has a crack on one side as can be seen in photos, and rubber stopper is stiff from age, but no damage to glass.
As can be seen, the spare needle case, medication case with vials, and the diagnostic tag booklet are missing. Still a nice piece for any collector of Mills belts, eagle snap gear, or US military medical gear. Belt is in excellent condition and the components are in very good to excellent condition. One price gets it all! Any questions please feel free to ask.
