    Description

Excellent set of WW1 surplus McClellan wooden stirrups.  One may have had a hood at one time, but was removed long ago - the other doesn't appear to have ever had a hood installed.  Both have heavy original shellac finishes, still showing the large drip marks from the application at the factory.  These are stamped on the bottom with the maker, year and inspectors initials - Spalding, 1918, K F.
Both show a minor amount of splitting on the outer surfaces of the foot bends, one a bit more than the other - none of which affects the overall utility of the stirrup.  If the buyer installed new or original hoods on these, the splitting would be well hidden.  Transom, hardware and edges all look clean and crisp with no noticeable wear from use.  There is a small screw hold in the center of each foot bed where someone had installed some hardware item to hold decorative items - easily filled or just ignored.
A great set of near NOS wooden stirrups for restoration/replacement purposes for a WW1 McClellan saddle.
