    Description

    This clay is a
water washed Kaolin mined in Florida. It is fairly plastic and very white firing compared with most other American Kaolins.  It has excellent casting properties.
I have priced this identical clay below every online retailer I could find and will match any price for the same clay at the quantity advertised.
    According to the
Potters' Dictionary of Materials and Techniques
    this clay is "
[s]ynonymous with China clay in North America. The purest clay, approximating closely the idealized clay mineral kaolinite. It contains very little iron impurity and is therefore white. It is a primary clay or a secondary clay moved only a short distance. It has therefore little plasticity but it is popular as a body constituent because of its whiteness. It is high in aluminium oxide content and with few alkaline impurities. It is therefore refractory with an assessed melting point over 1770°C (3218°F). It is used in glazes to introduce aluminum oxide and silica and to provide bulk in the slop suspension."
***Please note that White Kaolin Clay is a type of clay and does not indicate that the clay itself it pure white in color in its dried powder form. White Kaolin Clay is an off white color, as pictured, and becomes pure white if it is fired for making porcelain only.***
    Storage
    Room temperature,  air tight container.
    Shelf Life

    Safety Warning

product contains small amounts of free Silica (Quartz),  repeated and prolonged inhalation of dust in excess of acceptable threshold levels established by the U.S. Occupational and Safety & Health Administration. (OSHA)  may cause delayed lung injury (Silicosis).  Follow applicable OSHA standards for Crystalline Silica (Quartz). The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified Crystalline Silica in Group 2A of Probable Carcinogens based on limited evidence for the carcinogenicity of Crystalline Silica to humans- The National Toxicology Program has listed crystalline silica (respirable) as a substance which may reasonably be anticipated to be a carcinogen. Accordingly, we recommend wearing a respiratory mask for those customers who may be pouring large amounts of clay and breathing in significant amounts of the resultant dust for prolonged periods.
