    Description

This beautiful vintage woman’s haori of urushi silk features beautifully woven pine towering over houses and bridges design, woven on top of an allover sayagata pattern (one of the first patterns used in decorative design – represents good omen and virtue).  Urushi silk is made with
lacquered threads woven into sections of the silk, creating a design resembling embroidery.
Original white and multi-colored himo ties are included.  Silk lining features pale gold and white mon (crest) designs.
Really cute dressed down worn with jeans, dressed up worn over a formal outfit, or worn in the boudoir, great for cosplay, hung on the wall as an art piece or just add it to your silk collection!
Very minor stains on front left sleeve.  May be cleanable – talk to an expert dry cleaner who specializes in vintage clothes.  This haori probably dates to the 1940s-50s.
This haori was probably never worn – basting stitches are still present and intact!
    Approximate dimensions:
Sleeve hang length is 18.75”, haori is 52” wide from wrist to wrist, and is 32“ long from shoulder to hem, width of the back is 23.5”, and usually fits American women size 2-12 – can be worn open or closed.
    Haori are
short silk jackets worn over kimono.   They are very attractive, comfortable, and easy to wear and are suitable with either dresses or pants.  Styles range from casual to extremely elegant evening attire. Like kimono, they tend to vary little in size. They are worn open and the plackets DO NOT MEET at the center front. Some haori come with short braided ties (Himo) attached just inside the center front; these can be used or removed. Haori are all made with side gussets that can be let out by a competent seamstress if necessary.  Women who require a size 14 or 16 might consider wearing men's haori.  Of course haori also make lovely display items as well, hung from a straight rod.
