    Description

    For sale here is an interesting US WW1 Era Holster.  I had just assmed that this was for a M1911 pistol, but when fitting my pistol to be sure, it was too small.  A 1911 will not fit in this holster.  I believe this holster is for the M1917 revolver, and this is a private purchase holster in the 1911 style to fit that revolver.  This holster is made out of brown leather and is very nicely done.  The front US stamping is crisp and is much deeper than seen on issue holsters.  There is no oval stamping.  Also, the holster does not close on a stud, but has a black painted functional brass snap.  The holster is made the same way as a 1911 holster with steel belt hooks closure flap, and thong grommet, but it is about an inch shorter, and is not quite as wide.  Also, there are no bumbers inside of the holster.  The holster is stiff, but is supple enough for use or carry.  There are some surface cracks on the top flap fold.  All stitching is strong.  The holster does show age, use, and carry, and there are a few spots on the flap that look like possible silver fish bites.  At any rate, this is a great looking Private Purchase holster.  I am glad i stuck in my 1911, or i wouldn't have noticed it being for a different weapon.  I have never seen this style holster used for a weapon other than the 1911.  I guess the owner of this holster must have thought that this style of holster was better looking.  Very cool piece!  This will make a great addition to your collection.
