A hard to find M1908 Mess Cup.
The M1908 was an attempt by the U.S. Army for a larger and wider mess cup with an insulated handle.
The cup proved to big and the M1910 with cup/canteen/cover design was later adopted
.
This cup is marked RIA (Rock Island Arsenal) with the early date of 1908 on the handle.
It is stamped "49" by the handle and "62" on the bottom of the cup.
This one has seen use with dents and wear, but the fiber pieces meant to insulate the handle are still intact
.
