Description
ARTIFACT: Rare, early 1950's American Airlines bronze and wood award paperweight. The center shows an aircraft being loaded with cargo, beautifully detailed, you can even see the people loading the packages into the belly of the plane. The aircraft is nicely detailed and reads: "AMERICAN AIRLINES AIRFREIGHT", shows the company logo and the tail shows: "DC 6A", "AMERICAN". In the sky there is an old covered wagon and railroad car in nice relief detail, perhaps a portrayal of historical ways of transporting cargo. At the top center the award depicts the American Airlines emblem, an eagle with wings up centered between two letter "A"s and reads: "AMERICAN AIRLINES" along the top in embossed lettering. The bottom reads: "AIRFREIGHT DISTRIBUTION AWARD" and the medal is set in wood with a leather piece applied to the underside.VINTAGE: Circa early 1950's
