    In the second round, Bruce Crampton became the first golfer to shoot 63 in a PGA Championship. In the third round, Jack Nicklaus shot 67 and moved into the lead. In the final round, Nicklaus held off a game Crampton, shooting 71 to Crampton's 69, to win his four PGA Championship. It was Nicklaus' 14th major victory overall. This was the fourth time that Crampton finished second to Nicklaus in a major.
