.  In 1999, in the voting for the All-Century team he was the top vote getter for 3rd basemen.  Many DO consider him the greatest third baseman of all time, with
THREE MVP
awards,
12 AllStar
Game appearances,
TEN gold gloves
, and
548 Home Runs
.  In 1999 he was ranked 28th on the All-Time greatest baseball players, and was first at 3rd base in the Sporting News rankings and was the highest-ranked post-1967 player.
This is a great showcase for him with at least
SIX
photos (his posed Senior photo, a basketball posed photo and a great basketball action photo are shown).  He is also shown on the baseball team in a decent group shot and on the Lettermen and a good shot as a member of the Coin collecting club!
This is not an easy book to come by and the overall book is superb, but it does have a few specific defects.  The front and rear cover and binding are excellent with barely noticeable wear and NO defects.  The pages inside are clean, glossy and most are like new; however there are the following specific defects:
1.) On the inside of the first page (which had no content of note)  there is a graduation program that is neatly taped in.  This program lists Michael J. Schmidt as a member of the 1967 graduating class.  Ordinarily this would not be a defect, but a huge bonus; however it would appear that this program may have initially been glued onto the page and then it may have come off and then been taped, so there are the edges around the program on the page that would show this.
Overall very minor.
2.) There are only two neat inscriptions in the book and there are about 10 photos which have a checkmark over or next to them (clearly the owner was either noting their photos or those of friends.)  Again, fairly normal and not meaningful.
3.) On two of the pages, there appears to be a spot, about the size of a pencil eraser that could have been a drop of fruit juice or soda closed between the pages...but it is not on any meaningful content and not at all related to Mike's pages.  Again, barely noticeable.
4.) However, there is ONE defect of more significance and that appears in the basketball section where someone must have tried (or succeeded) in tearing out that page from the book, and it, as well as a tiny tear into the facing page, have been neatly taped back into the book.  The tear does go through the photo of the basketball team (which Mike is in), although the part with his photo was not torn and is not taped.  This is the ONLY defect of real note.
All in all this is a very special and difficult book in superb condition with only one meaninful defect, which is taken into account by pricing this at about half of what the book would normally be listed at.
