William "Bill" Purser, a retired airline and CIA pilot, took his first airplane ride at age nine in a Pan American Ford Tri-Motor that landed in his Depression-era hometown in Georgia. From then on all he wanted was to be a pilot. His memoir, "My Guardian Angel: The Invisible Crewman," relates the story of his adventurous career in aviation and his spiritual awakening in later life.
Bill also authored two other books. "The Auto Gypsies" is the true story of the cross-country trip made by three young Georgians in a Model T Ford in 1923 as told through the trio's actual letters and photographs. "The Golden Days of Airline Travel" is a photographic history of the birth of American aviation with a focus on the contributions of CR Smith of American Airlines.
Bill passed away in 2009 at his home in Georgia.
